What is PSE certification?
PSE certification is a mandatory certification implemented under Japan's Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act, with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) as the primary authority. Anyone manufacturing or importing electrical appliances for export to Japan must meet the technical standards for their products and, depending on the product's eligibility, obtain PSE certification. Products subject to certification are divided into 116 specific electrical appliances and 341 non-specific electrical appliances. Certification procedures and requirements vary depending on the product category.

116 items of specific electrical appliances (PSE Diamond)To enter the Japanese market, this product must undergo a conformity test by a Japanese accredited testing agency recognized by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry or by a foreign accredited testing agency recognized by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

PSE Circle -
341 electrical appliances other than specified electrical appliances (PSE Circle)While there is no mandatory requirement to obtain approval from a Japanese accreditation body recognized by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, manufacturers must, either on their own or through a testing agency, affix the PSE Circle mark to their products or labels if they meet the relevant standards. Failure to do so will result in products being denied customs clearance in Japan.
